Verbier Festval 25 Years (CD)
Founded in 1994, the Verbier Festival is a high-profile musical event held each summer in the resort town of Verbier, Switzerland. The international festival has featured energetic performances by many celebrated musicians, such as Martha Argerich, Evgeny
Kissin, Bryn Terfel, Yuja Wang, Mikhail Pletnev, Malena Ernman, and Daniil Trifonov, among many other guest artists.
This four-CD set presents concertos, chamber works, and operatic and vocal music, bristling with the excitement of live performance. Presented in a hardcover booklet, the package offers complete performances of works by Tchaikovsky, Berio, Mendelssohn, Beethoven, Tsfasman, Brahms, and Dvorák, as well as the final act of Die Walküre by Wagner, so much of the music will be familiar to mainstream audiences, if not all casual classical listeners. The key to enjoying this set is a desire to hear the live interactions of the musicians with each other and the Verbier Festival Orchestra and the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra, conducted by maestros Valery Gergiev, Gustavo Dudamel, Kurt Masur, Gábor Tákacs-Nagy, and Kent Nagano, which added considerable excitement to the concerts.
